Now all things are of God who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation…
2 Corinthians 5:18
As I sit in our nation’s capital grieving as I watch the news of another instance of police officer killings, I am drawn to the calling of the church to answer this command from scripture. We as believers are called to the ministry of reconciliation. That is first and foremost to Christ as Savior and Lord and then it is extended to one another as fellow human beings.
There is a movement which has gained great attention in our nation called Black Lives Matter.
My understanding of scripture is that the Bible teaches that All Lives Matter.
My point here is not to get into a figures argument, nor is it to get into social issues debate, but rather to stress the fact that we as the church are called to the ministry of reconciliation. We are called to bring together. We are called to preach the gospel of peace, love and salvation rather than to focus on and promote separation, sides and anger.
I pray that we as believers would rise to the occasion that is before us, first pray and then act as God gives us direction in sharing the great message of hope, salvation, love and reconciliation with our Creator which in turn will lead to reconciliation with each other as human beings looking past our color, upbringing or priorities.
