“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification that it may impart grace to the hearers.”
Ephesians 4:29

Social media in the form of Facebook, Twitter, Kick and other venues have totally changed the way we communicate the goings on in our lives, our thoughts even our beliefs. So how should the Christian use these new communication portals in light of what scripture calls us to?

If the Apostle Paul were writing Ephesians 4:29 today he would probably have added, “let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth or through your fingers….”

It seems to me that we have in some way become disconnected from this verse when it comes to what we put on Facebook, Blogs, Twitter and other forms of social media. Rather than using these avenues as a way to encourage and build people up through the Word of God or a kind word, we use them instead to tear down, criticize and bring division.

Paul writes in Romans 12:18 that we should; “as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”

Using these forms of communication as a means of educating and informing is one thing, but using them as a way of tearing down, dividing, criticizing or destroying other people seems to me to be the direct opposite to what the Christian is to reflect.

May God help us to use not only our words but our fingers to build up rather than tear down.

God bless,
